A Golden Practice of Physick

Swiss born Plater, physician to German nobility, lists at length a range of bodily problems and how best to cure them, including ‘missing teeth’, ‘sagging breast’s and ‘goggle eyes’. This text is notable in how the medical and the aesthetic are conflated in this period, with the ‘unseemly’ nature, and superficial appearance of conditions frequently taking priority over any medical concerns.
